Status: Certified Biodynamic
Origin: Costa Rica
Our Certified Biodynamic Bourbon Vanilla Bean from Costa Rica is plump with lots of seeds. Grind it, cut it open and use the whole bean (to expose more of the surface of the bean giving a more intense flavor) or cut it open or scrape out the seeds, with this bean you have lots to work with!
Use the whole bean in beverages and then rinse and dry it out to use again. A bean that has had a couple of ‘lives’ this way can be ground up to add flavor to ice cream, baked goods, and other sweet foods. Vanilla is also a flavorful addition to meat, tomato based soups and stews, vegetables and salad dressings.
Another popular vanilla bean recipe is to let 2-10 sliced (cut in half but let one end remain intact) vanilla beans sit in a bottle (750ml) of Vodka or Brandy. After about 1 month this will be ready to use as your vanilla extract and for flavoring and will develop a more intense flavor up to about 6 months.
Macerate a vanilla bean (as above in the Vodka/Brandy) in your massage oil base (straining the bits out if necessary) to make an exotic and sensual massage oil or perfume. You could brand yourself by offering a Vanilla Scented Massage made by and given with your healing hands!
If you’ve kept your vanilla bean too long – what do you mean you didn’t know what to do with it! – you can rehydrate it by soaking in warm liquid and then slice open the plumped up bean for use. Store your beans cool and dry and airtight (not refrigerated as this can harden the bean). Storing free of moisture will prevent the bean from molding.
Wholesale purchases require minimum $50 total order.
